You may recognize Amanda’s iconic Alaska-inspired work from galleries around town - we are so honored to have her gracing the Midtown Scoop Shop wall! Featuring majestic landscapes, animal portraits, and homages to our favorite winter activities, Amanda’s show is a love letter to Alaska.
We caught up with Amanda for some Q&A:
Tell us about what inspired the pieces for this collection?
'Sweet Lookin Art'
It is smack in the middle of the cold, dark "why do I live somewhere that hurts my face" season here in Anchorage, Alaska. To sur-thrive we need uplifting vibes, color and JOY around us! On one note that can be a sweet treat for your tummy, and while you're at it a sweet treat to feast your eyes. This collection speaks to that inner soul that's seeking the sun and warmer weather. Or is it just me?
Tell us a bit about yourself as an artist?
I'm an acrylic painter and digital artist. You can find my work from small stickers, heart-warming children's books, intricate puzzles and all the way to large scale original canvas paintings. My work carries a lot of whimsical animals, bright scenery and fun contrasted colors. I began my painting days around 2014 with family inspiration, creating paintings to auction off for my mother's chemo expenses. I believe that inspiration from my late mother lives on through charming animal families, and my philanthropic work I get to create with the community.
What else would you like to share about your process, drive, or artistic journey?
Other inspirations: I'm a mom of two teenage boys, those two combined with my witty husband Don, I get to laugh a lot. I hope that my art creates a smile like that. My family and I enjoy the Alaskan outdoors together in the summer and fall. The typical camping, atv, fishing and summer festivals mixed in, we love summer and its packed adventures. Truthfully, not the biggest snow bunny, but I do enjoy it with a hot cup of cocoa...through a window...inside... under a warm fuzzy blanket.
Favorite Wild Scoops flavor?
Sitka Swirl, hands down! Although my kids would argue the White Raven is the best. But this is about me. Caramel Girl through and through.
Fun fact?I own 8 chickens (new chicken mom). Oh and there is an adorable fox at the Wildlife Conservation named after me. Sweet "Warren" is the cutest, smartest fox in the whole world. OK, I'm biased.
